For my part, there have been letters back and forth with LK regarding Paul. They want to know where he works, if he is a member of AHA, how long etc. He seems to be out of town. This is a rough draft of the letter I plan to send. Please send me your suggetions and/or changes. Thanks, Claire Lloyd Kumley, CA Chair Thanks you for your reply about Paul Abramson. I have tried to reach him to present him with the questions you would like answered. Unfortunately, he seems to be out of town at this time. However, I can respond as to why we suggested him as a replacement for Howard Gonsalves. We began with the requisite that the person be within an easy commute for meetings. There is a large pool of people from which to select in the Stanford Humanist Community and we began by thinking about those who attend our weekly meetings regularly and are active in the group Paul Abramson was one of the first people who came to mind. He joined the Stanford Humanist Community in 1995 and from that time on he has been an important member. He served on the board and was elected to both the posts of Treasurer and Vice President. As Vice President, he often chaired meetings of the Board of Directors and of the full membership. He was an excellent spokesman. His background is in finance and he was even more impressive as Treasurer. He took over problems of our cash flow and found solutions which have balanced our budget. Under his auspices new ways have been inaugurated to raise funds. Three of us, Arthur, Paula and I, know him personally. We have found him to be a reasonable and intelligent man, conciliatory, always ready to help on a committee or with a chore to be done. These are some of the qualities we looked for in a Trustee. Further, when he was approached and asked if he would like to serve, he was enthusiastic and eager to see if he could improve our investment strategies. I realize that over the years there have been lapses in response from the COT. These have been due to an unduly large load of work which fell on too few people. With Paul Abramson aboard, we feel that any slack that might occur ( people DO have personal problems and illnesses) we would have an excellent person to ask for help. And be assured that if asked, he would be there doing whatever is needed. As soon as Paul Abramson has returned and can answer the questions, we will send the answers on to you . Meanwhile, be assured that we heartily endorse him and look forward to working with him. Claire Gordon
