Subject: Re: [Fwd: Humanists of Georgia Grant Progress] Date: Fri, 2 Jul 1999 01:21:38 -0700 From: "Jared Jackson" To: "Arthur Jackson" FUND FOR CHAPTER EXPANSION GRANT - PHASE ONE BEGINS In last month's newsletter, we announced that HGA received a grant from the Fund for Chapter Expansion. The grant was made to fund an educational program for adults and children to help them answer questions about humanism from those they must interact with. We will use the grant to fund a series of sessions for members as well as developing some materials that could be used by members in educating others about our group and humanism in general. In this article, we outline the phases of our work plan and timetable for completion of the project. In Phase One, we will collect available information of relevance to the project to give us a starting point for formulating the questions we want to prepare members to address, as well as possible answers to those questions. We want to make sure we take advantage of what is already available to maximize the "new ground" we can cover on the project. Phase One will be completed by the end of August 1999. In Phase Two (September through November 1999), we will compile the data we have collected to form the basis of our "work products" for the project. We believe that the precise forms our work products may take should be decided at the end of Phase Two based upon the information we have collected in Phase One. In Phase Three (December 1999 through February 2000), we will establish test materials to distribute for use by our members and other AHA chapters to gather feedback on the effectiveness and completeness of the materials. Finally, in Phase Four (spring of 1999) we will make any changes indicated in Phase Three and develop the final work products for our members and other AHA chapters. We will also decide how HGA needs to use these materials in a series of sessions to educate our members and add to our membership ranks, and share this with other AHA chapters. With this game plan in mind, the following sets forth our specific plans for Phase One, which will be completed by the end of August 1999. 1) We invite you all to contribute your ideas for questions of importance to you in keeping with our project mission statement as well as possible answers or considerations for those questions. In addition, we want to learn about any materials you are aware of that may help us in this regard. 2) We want to tap as many sources of input as possible, and would encourage all of our members to contribute their ideas. We will also welcome ideas and comments from the AHA, other AHA chapters, the Chapter for Fund Expansion, etc. and will send notification to them to encourage their participation. 3) We want to make it easy for you to contribute ideas. One way we will do this is by establishing a "bulletin board" on our HGA website with Lori O'Neal's help. This should allow you to visit the website at your convenience and add your ideas to the bulletin board. Other ways to contribute are by e-mail (please e-mail me at Rilman@aol.com) as well as in hard copy form. To streamline the next phases of the project, however, electronic medium is strongly encouraged for your contributions. 4) As we move forward with the data collection, we may form a committee to help facilitate this activity. If anyone is interested in volunteering to serve on the committee, please let Greg Graves know. Please feel free to e-mail him at Rilman@aol.com or by phone at (404)846-0897. We are looking forward to a rewarding experience with this project; its success is contingent upon all of your help and contributions. I look forward to hearing from you. We will continue to update everyone and report on our progress in upcoming newsletters. Thanks in advance for your help! here is the other one.
