Annual Darwin Day Lectures
Join the Darwin Day Program in promoting Darwin Day lectures across the world on or around February 12. Lectures may be a part of a course or presented to a classroom of students, a lecture series offered by the department, or the lecture may be part of a larger event featuring a speaker and open to the public. A diversity of subjects can be explored on the topics celebrated through Darwin Day. Possible speakers can be found in local academic institutions or brought in from different locations. Speakers participating in annual Darwin Day lectures are encouraged to submit a paper of their presentation for possible publication in the Darwin Day Program's annual anthology. Event organizers are also credited in the publication.

Workshops
An excellent activity suggestion is the workshop. Workshops can be directed towards a number of special audiences - students in different grade levels, local teachers, the general public, etc. Workshops have shown to be an effective educational practice in that they allow hands-on activity and interaction thereby increasing learning opportunities for all involved. Consider planning a workshop for your Darwin Day event.

Educational Outreach
Most of the Darwin Day events and activities have an educational outreach component. One of the primary goals of Darwin Day and the Darwin Day Program is to improve the public understanding of science and through increasing the number of events taking place across the world, this goal is being reached. Here, however, we have included specific activities that fall under educational outreach within your community and can be organized by individuals and groups able to plan an outreach program with plenty of thought and expertise involved.

Informational Distribution
Distributing information is an easy and effective form of educational outreach and it provides an option for those individuals who have been unable to plan a large event or who are interested in getting involved at this level. Distributing material is also often a part of many Darwin Day celebrations and so the resources found here will be useful to numerous event organizers and participants.

Fun Learning Activities
Learning activities can be included in larger events or organized on their own. Classrooms with little room for a complete line-up of activities may choose one activity in celebration of Darwin Day. Small groups may also enjoy organizing a learning activity among their membership or within the community.

Darwin Day Entertainment
An event with an entertainment component is a popular choice among Darwin Day event participants. Science is rarely shown to be an entertaining pursuit that has impacted many disciplines outside of the science. By exploring the sciences through the arts, the accessibility of learning is available to more people and fun becomes a common element associated with science.

Media Awareness & Outreach
An important form of outreach to include in Darwin Day events and celebrations is with the media. There are many forms of media within a given community and in today's society, the media is a powerful outlet for distributing information and learning. Consider implementing a media outreach project within your event to increase general awareness and participation in annual Darwin Day events.

Visit the Darwin Day Program's Media Relations area for a few resources. We hope to develop further materials for this outreach project in the future.

Sales Tables
The sales table is often included in Darwin Day events and celebrations. There are several places where event organizers can obtain items to sell for Darwin Day. There are also many items which can be made relatively easy by event volunteers.

Event Add-Ons
There are several small bits and pieces which can be added to a Darwin Day event or celebration, including some of the activities include above. Here we try to gather common add-ons used in events to improve the line-up of activities and offer that much more to event participants.
