Harris, last updated 2007 May 24, pm 3:00 Important information (especially passwords) for DarwinDay.org and DarwinDayCelebration.org: Network starting sequence that works: If printing on the DELL multifunction printer or browsing or email access goes bad, possibly due to wrong assignments of the dynamic IP addresses, the system can be put into a stable (and working) set of assignments by (1) turning off the computers, the printer, the router (pull out the power connector at the back) and the DSL modem. Then (2) wait perhaps a minute and turn them back on in the REVERSE order: DSL modem 1st, plug in the Netgear router, turn on the printer, turn on the computers one at a time. Let each device have time enough for its self tests and establishment of the connections, and for the router to assign IP addresses using DHCP. NOTE: The above has been outdated by using the Netgear router box to assign specific IP addresses to specific devices (knowing them by their MAC addresses): Netgear Router 192.168.1.1 (locally), MAC: 00:09:5B:DA:45:B4 Modem's MAC: 00:0B:23:6E:09:1E Dell printer is 192.168.1.2, MAC: 00:00:f0:ae:1c:0c ? DDC-DEV is 192.168.1.3 MAC: 00:0c:f1:e9:4e:28 DDC2 is 192.168.1.4 MAC: 00:0c:f1:fb:f3:2b. BOB is 192.168.1.5 MAC: 00:40:05:87:89:f4 Bob's laptop : ? MAC: ? The machines can be remotely accessed using the DynDNS.org service, where the computer's dynamic IP address (of form 'nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn') will be registered (at darwindaycelebration.homeip.net ) so one can learn its IP address from any remote site that communicate with DynDNS.org. At dyndns.org, our account is ddcdns, with password emmadarwin. The email for their feedback is HYPERLINK "mailto:darwindaycelebration@sbcglobal.net"darwindaycelebration@sbcglobal.net. Their service is set to receive a login from a program on the DDC2 computer that reports when our IP has changed. The "firmware" program in our Netgear router is disabled (turned off) at the suggestion of DynDNS.org. DynDNS.com says these programs are not properly written. At their suggestion, we have DynDns Updater running to perform the task of telling the dyndns database what our current IP address is. Our current IP address is displayable anywhere in the world by a ping command to darwindaycelebration.homeip.net, normally done in a Command Prompt window as "ping darwindaycelebration.homeip.net". Also by hovering the mouse over the little green box with a check mark in the lower right corner one can see the IP address locally. To log into the NETGEAR wireless router, the IP address is 192.168.1.1, the username is admin, and the password is "emmadarwin". Can log into the router and control a box in the Wireless part that controls "Enable Wireless Access Point". It's most secure to have the wireless access off. I have seen an unexplained "Device" attached on 12Oct'05, which was not our wireless laptop. On the Netgear box, the wireless connection WEP 128 bit key has the passphrase emmadarwin in the Netgear. The external laptop must have the corresponding number put in as the WEP key. To log into the DELL multifunction printer, the IP address is 192.168.1.2. The IP number is assigned by the Netgear router. The printer's login name is admin and the password is "emmadarwin". After a full reset, it would be admin/admin or admin/password (it should not be necessary to do full reset). On the database computer (DDC2), the User2 account (used for all development and execution of DDC's programs) has pwd emmadarwin. For supplies like toner cartridges for the Dell printer (~$100 for 5,000 sheets 2 cents a page for toner), the account at dell.com/supplies uses email address info@darwinday.org and pwd emma1808. ------------------------------------ Norton/Symantec SystemWorks antivirus etc. Using our Symantec account HYPERLINK "mailto:admin@darwinday.org"admin@darwinday.org with password emmadarwin and question "What's my favorite hobby?" with answer "Darwin Day". ------------------------------------ DreamHost ID was emma1808, birthday Jun 3, 1931, pwd emmadarwin. Register.com registrar (for darwindaycelebration.org) domain darwindaycelebration, pwd Uaqd2icH. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the low cost registrar godaddy.com, the login ID on the account is 6241875, with password emmadarwin . The account is in the name of Lola Stephens. godaddy.com is our registrar for darwindayprogram.org, .com, and .net accounts which forward to the Host Rocket Web site with darwinday.org. For phone calls, a 4 number PIN of 1859 (Origin's first publication) was established for use only when calling in by phone. On 27Feb2006, we transferred darwinday.net (from Host Rocket) to godaddy.com, with time extension to the year 2010. We also put in a backorder (attempt to "snag") for darwinday.com that Amanda might be releasing. After a delay due to a scam on the Net, we DID get darwinday.com. On 8 May06 I put in a $31.80 order to transfer to GoDaddy (and extend by 1 year each) the domains darwinday.org, darwinday.com darwinday.net darwindaycelebration.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BULKREGISTER.COM had darwinday.net, which it got from Host Rocket. One can't deal directly with BULKREGISTER. 8May06: GoDaddy has directions for getting the Authorization Code from Bulkregister.com Incoming e-mail for DarwinDay is being handled on the database machine (DDC2, was DDC-DEV2), by the Thunderbird Mail, with separate mail signups for these accounts: HostRocket: For support account and the like: darwind with password Uadq2icH, or possibly Username: David Harris Password: 79247940 ?
